Stephanie’s Story

Transcript:

Hi, I'm Steph, head of Global Impact at Batyr. At Batyr, we run preventative mental health programs in schools, universities and communities for young people by young people.

In Australia, we train young people to learn how to share their lived experience stories in a really safe and impactful way to help others.

So in Australia, I'd say a lot of really good things are happening in the mental health space.

However, a lot more can still be done when it comes to investing in health promotion, prevention and early intervention activities, I think particularly community based activities really centered on lived experience.

And so being a part of the Global Mental Health Action Network has been really valuable for us because it's allowed us to connect with members who are focusing on similar activities and similar areas around the world. And it's given us access to global events that we just wouldn't have had access to otherwise.

I think for me personally, sometimes working in this area can feel really daunting because I just think that there's still so much more change that needs to happen.

But actually being a part of the network kinda makes me feel like I'm a part of something even bigger with people who feel equally passionate. And so if you haven't yet joined, I'd really encourage you to and hopefully I'll be able to see you at the next meeting.
